Cara Raises $8M Seed to Build the AI Platform for Insurance Brokerages

We ran a digital insurance brokerage. Licensed agents and thousands of customers. And every day, before we got to a single client conversation, we lost hours to work that had nothing to do with insurance. So we built tools to survive it.

When we sold the brokerage, our acquirer, McGowan Companies, became one of Cara’s first customers. Since then, Cara has evolved into a fully-fledged AI platform, now used by hundreds of insurance brokerages across the United States and growing rapidly.

Today we're announcing $8 million in seed funding led by Kearny Jackson, with participation from Claire Hughes Johnson (Former COO, Stripe), Kevin Mahaffey (Founder, SNR), Sam Hodges (CEO, Vouch Insurance), and Colin Evans (Startups and Partnerships, OpenAI). Seven-figure ARR in seven months. Eighty percent of our customers came through word of mouth, agents telling agents.

In this industry, trust is the currency. When agents refer you to their network, that means something real. That's the number I'm most proud of.

Cara is an AI platform for insurance operations that automates manual workflows across agencies and brokerages—coverage comparisons, proposal generation, ACORD/COI creation, and voice/email request handling—while integrating with existing AMS and CRM systems so teams can focus on premium production and client relationships.

The $8 million seed round will fund insurance-specific AI research and product development, deeper integrations with the agency management and CRM systems and team growth. There are 40,000 independent agencies and brokerages in the United States with massive opportunities ahead to transform how our industry operates.
