As insurance agencies and brokerages look to adopt AI, Cara has built them an AI tool they can trust.

Cara’s genesis came from its founders’ first-hand experience building a digital insurance brokerage, which revealed how much friction insurance brokerages face each day. Cara co-founder Vic Yeh noted that up to 70% of brokers’ time is spent on tasks, such as completing paperwork and generating documents, that do little to support the client relationship.

Vic Yeh, Nikhil Kansal and Jonathan Patel built Cara to reduce that time burden. Brokerages, agencies and wholesalers can leverage its AI technology to automate mundane and repetitive tasks so staff can focus on delivering coverage and fostering customer relationships.

The development of AI has advanced at such a pace that insurers of all sizes are rushing to adopt the technology. Faced with the need to move quickly, many are experimenting with various pilots and rushing to find a solution that works. However, just because a tool leverages AI doesn’t mean it is a good product for the company. Yeh noted, “In the market there’s a lot of hype, but very few good products that actually solve the needs of insurance brokerages.”

Cara’s defining characteristic is that it’s not another generic AI tool, instead it was purpose-built for insurance. Yeh added, “We are the only platform in the market built by insurance agents for insurance agents.” Its team is full of experienced insurance agents and AI engineers to ensure the technology meets the specific requirements of insurance. This ensures clients can trust the output, rather than leaving them double-checking everything it produces.

Kansal noted that the biggest risk of a generic AI model is the “false confidence” it gives insurers. He added, “You can get a really confident-looking answer from an AI that is general-purpose and it might even be right 60% of the time, but that can give you this idea that it’s doing a good job until one day it doesn’t.”

With Cara, brokerages can be confident in its ability to automate workflows end-to-end, with the platform capable of automating up to 50 different workflows from initial deployment. This includes document processing, proposal generation, coverage analysis, call automation and much more.

Automation doesn’t mean replacing humans. Insurance is a relationship business, and Cara helps firms to double down on relationships. Yeh said, “I think five to ten years from now, there will actually be more insurance professionals in the industry than there are today.” Cara has built its tools to be a partner for brokers and enhance their capabilities, rather than replace them.

Cara was founded in 2024 and in those two short years, its services have evolved and deepened to become an AI platform to brokers. When a new client starts leveraging the technology, they might start with embedding it into three to five workflows, but they soon realize the breadth of the tool’s capabilities and expand to orchestrate across the entire business.

This flexibility is essential for long-term success. While many firms might seek point solutions, it can be more beneficial to consider how AI can be used across the entire lifecycle to improve the underlying processes. Kansal said, “Rather than trying to retrofit a tool or technology into something that they’ve been doing for a really long time, how can they reimagine those efficiencies given what’s available today.”

Cara has only just started its growth journey and has big ambitions, with its goal to eliminate 99% of manual workflows insurance brokerages face. The team predicts significant transformation in how agencies operate in the coming years, and AI will be at the centre of it. Kansal explained, “It’s going to be the difference between having a computer and a filing cabinet. We’re aiming to make this a technology that is so indispensable to our customers that they can’t even imagine having done anything without it.”

On a final note, Patel stated, “We’re still just scratching the surface, both in terms of what Cara can do and where AI is shaping the insurance industry.”
